Sad news of a well remembered volunteer

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Douglas Perrin in a tragic sailing accident in Ireland.  When he retired from Bloxham School in 2011, Douglas – whose wife Judith was a teacher at Headington School, and had visited Jambiani as part of the regular school trips - contacted ZAP to ask if he would be useful as a volunteer English teacher. He travelled to Jambiani and spent 3 months living and working in the village – teaching in the primary school and taking extra curricular English classes in the ZAP academy.  Perhaps the best epitaphs for Douglas and his dedicated work on ZAP’s behalf are in the words of the villagers below:

"RIP my teacher" - Yahya Mussa

"God bless him and send my sorry to his family for this sad time" - Mohd Simai

"RIP teacher" - Pandu Abdalla

"Honestly I very much remember him during his stay here as I was his driver, but much more to remember him due to his ability of teaching English something which really improved Moh'd's English and his fellow students.  We are really very sorry of that mama to lose this lovely man. I will inform his students and of course they perform prayers for him. May Allah bless him AMEN." - Mr Pandu
