Water Project

The recent cholera outbreak which we personally witnessed on our last field trip to Jambiani made us realise the critical state of the water supply in the south of the village. Unless something can be done to solve the problem, there will be many more tragedies in the village, especially in the coming season, after the long rains.

A separate sub-committee representing the 3 sub-villages of Jambiani – Mchangani, Mwednawima and Mfumbwe - has been set up to address this urgently, headed by Mr Vuai (ZAP computer teacher) as Project Manager. His impressive and comprehensive Report and Request for Assistance to renew the water supply is available for download in PDF format.

This extremely poor area of Jambiani has already managed to raise a large sum of money to help themselves, but much more is needed. ZAP gave emergency medical aid funds during the epidemic, but this project falls outside our remit. Nevertheless, we are doing our very best to seek sponsorship for this project, through official British Government and EEC channels. If any readers have useful contacts, or ideas as to other approaches to the problem we would be VERY grateful to hear from you!
